FATTY - 8 WEEKS, 4 DAYS

I'm still indulging! I think when you are feeling fat and frumpy you just think, one more biscuit aint gonna hurt, I'm already fat so it wont make any difference. Once I can get past that, I can still indulge phase, then I should be able to get back on track. I know I will feel so much better and happier once I am in some nice jeans and some good fitting tops. Perhaps I can then make the effort to make myself look like a yummy Mummy!

Enough about me, Leo is wicked! He such a sweet little boy but I can tell he is going to be a cheeky monkey. He has an amazing smile and I just love his huge frown.

My routine seems to be going well with him and he is settling down before 8pm nearly every night now. After that he has only twice woken up before midnight. This is allowing me to have my first night out tomorrow night, to see Harry Potter. I so hope I don't fall asleep! I am already thinking about what I can indulge in though, how naughty is that?

Received a text message rather early this morning and I just knew it would be from Sophie, one of my active birthing Mummy friends. Her due date was Ellis' birthday, 5th August but she gave birth, at home, this morning to a 7lb 12oz boy called Ted William. I so can't wait to meet him and I am really happy that she had a good birth. Congratulations Sophie! xxx

I accidentally cut the top of Leo's thumb this morning. Boy did he cry and make me feel really really guilty about it. I hated it and I kept saying sorry to him.

He is doing really well holding his head up now and can do it for a long time. I have only laid him on his front a couple of times but he doesn't seem to be able to lift it up yet. I will have to try it more often.

He is falling into a bit of a routine and thankfully it seems to follow Ellis a bit. He wakes at about 5 for a feed and then again at 6ish which is when I bring him in bed with me, a habit I need to stop really.

He feeds at 8am then again at 10am and then usually sleeps from about 10:30 to 11:30 which is Ellis' nap time too. I tend to use this time to have a sit down and check my e-mails etc. It doesn't always work out like that obviously.

While Ellis napped yesterday I took a small video of Leo on his play mat.

The jabs don't seem to have effected him yet. He had a red lump on one leg for a day but that has already gone and I haven't noticed that he has a temperature. His behaviour is pretty much the same too but he did go a long time the other night so that might be because of it. It isn't long until he has to go through it all again.

I have started to put Leo in outfits a lot more but I find it makes him look bigger and older and I don't want to do that. I want him to stay a baby as long as possible. It's strange because with Ellis I always wanted him to progress and to be at the next stage but it is completely opposite with Leo. I do still feel like there is room for one more in this family.

Leo is very long, and is growing out of the crib a little too quickly. I'm not sure what we are going to do about beds. I might see if I can buy a second hand cot/cot bed for Leo's room. I'm just not ready to put Ellis in a bed, especially as he is waking up so bloody early. Not sure what to do yet but have to think about it soon.

He is still in size 2 nappies but I have bought size 3 already. He doesn't actually poo that much. Maybe twice a day, if that. He isn't as windy as he used to be either but he does need to be winded after every feed, Ellis didn't need to be.

Right I'm off to bed. Done nothing tonight but blogging.

I can't believe it but I am getting excited about Christmas! Ha ha! Or should that be ho ho!

ALL NIGHT LONG - 8 WEEKS, 3 DAYS

I may have actually dreamt this or was just so tired I didn't realise that I had woken up to feed Leo, but he went from just gone 8pm to 5:36am!

He only stirred this morning and I tried to give him a feed as my boobs were close to exploding but he only wanted a drink before promptly going off to sleep again!

I still can't believe it and like I said, I'm not sure it actually happened or not. I hope it isn't just a one off but Rob is coming home tonight so that may disturb him anyway.

FOOT - 8 WEEKS, 2 DAYS OLD

I absolutely love this photo of Leo's foot that I took today. I might get it blown up and framed.

Just wanted to share it.

FIRST JABS - 8 WEEKS, 1 DAY OLD

If you don't want to read about my bits, I suggest you miss this entry out. This blog is a record for me so I am writing about it.

So, today we had our checks at the doctors.

First up was me. My doctor is amazing and I think she is great, I even told her so. She just makes me feel at ease and that I could talk to her about anything, which is a good thing seeing as that is what she is there for.

I got up on the table and she had a look at the damage. My L shaped tear is very red raw but is healing. She also found another tear, which I didn't know about, at the bottom end that goes up inside. My tears aren't sore on a day to day basis but I wouldn't go prodding them. She said she had assumed I hadn't resumed my sex life yet as it was all looking rather sore. She said sex should be a no, no, unless I wanted to be put off for life. I said I would let my husband know that as he is getting a bit restless.

Unfortuantely due to my tears, she is unable to examine my bladder fully but did say she would phone the physiotherapist to give me a referal so that it can be looked at there too. It is nice to be getting all this help and I should soon be back to normal down there.

I was told to come back in 6 weeks time and was also reminded that it is still early days and the fact that I am so active with 2 children will slow down the healing process. Also the fact that I didn't have that 1 stitch has also slowed down the healing time. If I had known that at hospital I would of had the damn stitch. Live and learn I suppose.

She asked me a few other questions about boobs and contraception and then she moved on to Leo.

As he was weighed yesterday she didn't do it again and I asked about doing his length and she said that it isn't done unless there appears to be a problem. Boo!

The lump in his hand caused by the cannula at hospital has gone down and will disappear altogether over time.

She checked him over and then we moved on to see the nurse for his jabs. The nurse scared me to death by saying that if he has an allergic reaction then it is an emergency situation and that I should get back to the surgery if close by, but if not I should call 999. Then I was told about the red lump and sore legs and to treat it with a cold flannel, also he could get a temperature etc and to treat with Calpol. After all that I didn't want him to have the jabs.

Leo was chewing on his hand, quite happy when the first one went in. The nurse did it quickly and Leo didn't even notice. He swiftly moved on to leg and injection number 2 saying this one stings a bit more. He wasn't kidding as Leo let out a high pitched scream, went red and did the cry where they stop breathing for a bit. I was upset too but held it together for my baby.

I got him home as soon as I could and he was soon kicking away at his toys in his chair.

I went shopping today and bought a few bits for Leo for in the future. The winter coat, I think, will be too big for him but I liked it and it was half price.

Off to check on my little Angels before watching some rubbish then bed.

CAKE - 8 WEEKS OLD

I was gutted this morning when the scales showed that I haven't lost a pound! I have been reasonalby good the last 10 days or so, so was hoping to have lost at least one pound. Ah well, best try harder I think. I need to get my heart rate up to burn some fat. Currently I am doing a lot of physical exercise but it is mainly lifting, so I'm building up muscle again but remaining fat.

Measurements:

Weight = 12st 11lbs
Tummy = 95cm
Upper arm = 29cm
Upper leg = 63.5cm
Ankle = 24cm
Neck = 33cm

Leo was weighed today too. He is now 11lb 13oz which is average for his age. He was also measured, although not that accurately as the health visitor didn't pull his leg straight, at 60cm which is on the 91% line in his red book. So he is doing really well.

The night routine is still going well. He tends to settle around 8pm, sometimes all by himself but usually with a little help. He then doesn't wake until 2am ish although last night it was 12:06am. Very accurate I know but I just remember seeing it on my phone. I do always check what time he wakes anyway. Then it was around 5am and Ellis was awake too!

As Leo was 8 weeks today, I took some macro pictures of his face. I will do the 2 monthly pictures as well.

I did a short video yesterday as I don't want to just suddenly realise that I missed a huge chunk of his life. I love looking back at all the stuff I did when Ellis was a baby. I would love to see what I was like as a baby so I hope the boys like it too when they are older.

Leo pretty much remains in a vest and grow but occasionally I have been putting him in an outfit. I really like this one bought for him by Huw, Nicky, Evie and Ned. It makes him look older though so I quickly put him back into a grow.

I have my 6 week check tomorrow, even though it is actually 8 weeks ago, and Leo has his check and first jab. I hope it goes okay. Will do an update.

He has also had the snuffles for the last few days and has sneezed a lot today. I have cleared his nose out quite a bit with a cotton bud and that seems to help his breathing. He hasn't had any problems feeding which is good news.

Feeling sulky about my weight, so in order to make myself feel better, I ate some more cake! Go figure!

SWINE FLU - 7 WEEKS, 3 DAYS

I'm starting to freak out slightly about swine flu. I'm not really sure why but it might have to do with the fact that I think I have a cold coming. Runny nose, sore throat, bit achy and an annoying cough started last night. I just worry about my babies. I don't want anything to happen to them. I'm sure the parents of the recent swine flu victims didn't think it would happen to them, and now they have to bury their children!

This morning I sorted out some of Leo's clothes. I have kept some newborn and 0-3 month just in case ;o). He is now in 3-6 month grows which look huge! 0-3 vests are still ok.

Had a rough night last night as he woke 4 times and didn't really want to feed that much. I brought him in bed with me and he settled for a while.

Leo seems to be making up for his lack of feeds last night and has fed every 2 hours so far today. We are going out soon so he will probaby sleep in the car.

Need to chill out about swine flu and get on with my weekend.

LONG - 7 WEEKS, 2 DAYS OLD

Been feeling much better this afternoon after having had a chat with Sarah and Sophie, my active birthing Mummy friends.

Leo is now in 3-6 month grows as his feet are just too big for the smaller size. They are huge on him everywhere else but I didn't like his feet being restricted like that.

I really don't want to jinx it but tonight, Leo went down in his cot awake, and whinged himself to sleep. He never really got going with crying so I didn't have to comfort him once. Ace! Plus Ellis went straight to sleep too. How brill!?

Looking forward to seeing my hubby tomorrow.

FOGGY - 7 WEEKS, 2 DAYS OLD

I have a knot in my stomach a frog in my throat and for some reason everything seems kind of foggy today.

Last night went okay. Leo slept from 7:45pm to 3:15am which was brilliant.

I feel so unprepared for today, I'm not my usual organised self and nothing is falling into place. I'm sure I am making more of it then there is.

Last night I was sat with Rob and I said goodnight and I will see you, not tomorrow but the next day. It just suddenly hit me that I was gonna be on my own for all that time with 2 young children. All of a sudden it just felt so daunting and scary. I shook it off and went to bed but the feeling is still slightly haunting me today.

I need Rob around a lot more. I need him to take care of me, but it just isn't possible right now as he has to work to support us. It is a wonderful but tough time to have had baby Leo, and I only hope that the sacrifices being made now make up for the future positives.

I'm so grateful for the support of my friends and my Mum, they have been brill and often offer to help out.

I really don't want to complain or sound needy as I am a strong women doing the best job I can at raising my children. I just wish I could do it all and remain in high spirits.

I'm sure it is just one of those days, and I will watch it pass me by.

NUGGET - 7 WEEKS

Leo is turning out to be quite a charmer. We have been to a couple of parties recently and everyone seems to love him, even though he cried the whole time at one party. I wasn't sure what was wrong with him but he went to bed quite early, so maybe he was just tired.

Had a couple of bad nights in a row now which isn't that great. Not sure if maybe I am doing something different or not.

He loves cuddles! He whinges until you pick him up. It is so hard not to pick him, and to just let him cry it out for a bit. I am trying though as I can't cuddle him all the time, as much as I would love to.

He finds his thumb occasionally and soothes himself to sleep but he hasn't quite worked it all out yet.

Last weekend we all went swimming together as a family. It was hard work but great fun and Leo loves the water. He bobbed about just smiling. I did dunk him and he didn't seem to mind. Getting out was hard as he went purple from the cold straight away and didn't stop crying until he was all wrapped up warm.

He is also having big baths with his brother now. It is really difficult to time it all right but so far it has worked out. He loves it and Ellis doesn't seem to mind.

Current routine is going well, although it still can take him a while to settle down. Last night though he was asleep by 7:15pm and woke up at 1am for his first feed.

I am starting to show signs of fatigue. I can't quite speak or put sentences together, I am extremely forgetful and a bit emotional shall we say.

My e drive in my computer packed up on Saturday and this has been causing me some grief as if the information cannot be retrieved, then I would have lost a few videos and pictures which I find very upsetting. Rob is doing his best to sort it out and I am trying to not think about it just yet but finding it very difficult.

Rob finished off the hand and foot casts last night. They are really good and I love them. I'm so glad he put the effort in to do it.

As for me, I'm still not feeling that great about me, pretty minging in fact. I hate that I can't stop eating crap! I'm sure I have put on weight since coming out of hospital and I don't think I will be weighing tomorrow. I am trying very hard to do my pelvic floor exercises, but they don't work like they used to and it seems a lot harder to do. Maybe when I am not feeling tired and sorry for myself then I can sort out my eating and exercise. I was thinking of going out for some brisk walks with the buggy, get a bit of a sweat going. One thing that may hamper that is my pelvis. I can't believe that I am still having to nurse it nearly 7 weeks after giving birth. It burns in the front, stings on the left, clicks and just generally feels rather weak and uncomfortable, especially in bed. I have my check-up next week though so will talk about it all then.

Leo has his check-up and jab next week too. Not looking forward to the jab, although when he sticks his bottom lip out before he cries, it is so cute!

Couple of other things of note, Leo has inherited my sweaty hands and feet, poor thing, he still has a gooey right eye and a lump in his hand from where the cannula had tissued. He is also still producing a lot of boggies. It may be that my house is so dusty that it is clogging him up or he has a cold. Ellis has had a bunged up nose for over 2 weeks now so maybe it is just that.

Been dropping loads of hints about the "next" one, which we would call, Nugget, but Rob isn't having any of it. Maybe a bit too early to be trying to talk him into it. Give it a year or so and he might let me try for a girly. I think 3 would be amazing and I am sure I wouldn't push it for 4 as that then becomes very impractical.

I'm off to try and get 5 minutes nap while my boys are napping.

BOO HOO! - 6 WEEKS OLD

Leo was 6 weeks old today. Where has the time gone? He is growing so fast and changing all the time.

He really smiles a lot now, especially first thing in the morning after I have changed his nappy. He makes lots of sounds too and tries hard to copy me, or maybe it's me copying him.

He was weighed today at 10lb 10oz and is still following along the 50% line.

His feeding is still all over the place. The main pattern I suppose is lots of feeds in the morning, nap over lunchtime and awake in the afternoon, followed by lots of feeds over dinner time and into the evening.

I have been trying to put him down in his bed at night now and so far it is working OK. He pretty much doesn't settle down until 8-8:30pm.

He did cry himself to sleep today which is progress. It means that I don't always have to comfort him, for him to go to sleep. I sound really harsh I know but he only cried for 5 minutes. He also found his thumb a couple of times today so that helped him to settle himself.

The routine at the moment is I put Ellis in the bath, then dip Leo in and out, get him dressed and put him in his bed with the mobile on. I then wash Ellis and get him out, while running back and forth winding the mobile up. We all sit on the bed for story time and feed Leo. I usually have to break his feed to put Ellis into bed and then I have a shower before topping him up and then sitting with him while he slowly goes to sleep. I sometimes rock him a bit, or rub his belly and if he is really crying I give him cuddles and try to wind him.

Had a bit of a rough night with him last night. He woke 3 times for a feed and I changed his nappy once too. I don't seem to be feeling too tired during the day but come the evening I am sometimes too tired to talk to Rob.

I am a very happy mother right now. I love what I do and my kids are amazing. I still stare at both of them and can't believe I grew them, and they came out my body, and they are mine! It's the best feeling in the world.

What isn't a good feeling is how I feel about myself. I have been really struggling with my post pregnancy/birth body and it has been getting me down. It's only been 6 weeks I know but I just feel like everything should be back to normal by now, and I think Rob assumes it should be too. He has needs too but at the moment I'm just feeling too down about myself to make him happy.

I weighed today and I haven't lost a thing. I'm still rather heavy for me and I don't fit into any clothes which is horrible. I feel scruffy, frumpy and ugly everyday. I have to wear horrid bras that make my boobs look very saggy, my hair is falling out and has lost the pregnancy thickness, my skin is saggy, stretch marks look like the road map of London, my tear is still stinging when I urinate, I have piles, minging feet, and a slightly prolapsed bladder. Top all that with very little good sleep and you can probably see why I don't feel very attractive right now. I am attempting to eat better but it is very difficult. When I feel down all I want to do is eat more!

My relationship with Rob is definetly being hurt by my current mood but I don't think he realises that the way my body looks and feels is really bothering me. I miss my husband, my best friend, my companion but at the moment I have put up a brick wall so that I can cope with my life and I have no time or energy for all the fluffy stuff. I am sure things will improve in time.

Rob and I have been married 5 years this year and I really want to celebrate it. Even if it is just going out for a meal or something. Not sure what we will do about Leo though with regards to a baby sitter.

August did seem so far away but I keep forgetting that Ellis turns 2 in a few weeks time! I haven't planned anything or bought him a gift yet. Need to sort that out.

Off to play Sims 3 for a bit now and then bed.

ROUTINE - 5 WEEKS, 2 DAYS OLD

I realise I am falling behind with keeping up with this blog. I have been putting most of my information in Topflumps though.

The health visitor came again last week and weighed Leo. He was 9lbs 13oz! He is growing really well and following the 50% line on the growth chart. She was really pleased. It was the last home visit and I have to attend the local doctors surgery next Tuesday for another appointment.

Things are going OK. Leo has good and bad days. I think a lot of it depends on what I am doing and if I can give him all the attention (feeds) that he needs. Yesterday was a bad day and he cried himself hoarse at one point. I felt really guilty but I just couldn't do it all and he had to wait a little longer than I would have liked.

He still isn't in too much of a pattern with his feeds. Today he has pretty much slept the whole day and I have had to wake him for feeds. Yesterday he wanted to feed every hour. I think the weather plays a part in it though as he is having lots of small feeds.

He doesn't really like being put down too much. He loves cuddles, especially from me and does cry quite a bit some days. He is a lush baby though and I can't get over how cute and beautiful he is.

Last night I started doing a routine but already it is out of the window as he is still sleeping now when I should have bathed him and put him into bed. Anyway, last night I bathed him and fed him before putting him upstairs in bed. Then he woke about 15 minutes later so I fed him again in bed and put him straight back down after. That was about 8:30pm. He didn't wake then until 12:40am but then stayed awake until 1:50am. That was tough.

The next feed was at 5am and then again at 6am when Rob's alarm woke him woke. I left him to sleep on my bed while I had breakfast with Ellis and finally brought him down at 8am.

I have found this time around that I haven't worked out what cry means what. With Ellis I had that sussed quite early on so it was easy to sort him out and put him at ease earlier than I can with Leo. Leo really goes for it sometimes and I just don't know what it is, so I stick him on the booby to keep him quiet. He doesn't seem to complain about that.

The hot weather has been horrid. I love it to be hot, only when I am by a pool drinking cocktails with no one else to worry about except me. The kids have been constantly sweating and Leo has been a real worry especially at night as it is just so hot upstairs, even with all the windows open.

Leo hasn't been wearing any clothes for a few days now so I decided to go through some of his stuff as I know that he has outgrown newborn size already. I can see that Ellis' clothes are not going to fit him at the right times! The long sleeve t-shirts that I have are 0-3 which will be too small for him by the time he will need them. Doh! Will have to buy new of it all. Shame. ;o)

I had 2 piles for the baby clothes. 1 pile was to keep and the other was to give away. I'm not sure why I am keeping some, wishful thinking maybe, or it would just make me too sad to get rid of it all. I'm not ready to let go and that goes for my maternity clothes too.

Speaking of clothes, I have been going through mine as well. I had started to bag up all my maternity wear but I think I may need to keep it out! I am still quite big and I don't have anything suitable to wear at the moment. In fact I'm quite miserable about it all. I'm not helping myself though as I continue to eat crap and then moan about the size of my arms, ass and thighs. Need to sort it out and fast as I'm getting rather down about it which makes my eating worse.

Yesterday I had a bit of a hectic day and it wore me out. I woke up this morning aching! It was a very physical day as well as hot and stressful. I got through but I am feeling the after effects today. It helped that I went up my Mum's this afternoon and was looked after for a bit.

Rob has said that if I can get some expressed milk ready that he would have the kids so that I can go and treat myself. How nice would that be! I have been trying to express but it isn't easy to fit it into my day and also find it hard to even get it working. I will keep trying though as I need a break.

Been trying really hard to give Leo a bit more of my time, especially when Ellis is otherwise occupied as I don't want him to miss out. Plus I enjoy cooing at a baby.

I'm hoping this weekend we can all go swimming as a family but I'm not sure where we can fit it in. Rob wants Saturday to himself to do some tax return stuff so I am going out and Sunday we have Iestyn's birthday party. Rob will try and give Leo a bottle at some point though.

Leo was a month old on the 26th so I took some pictures of him. This is my favourite.

I really want to look into training up to be a midwife. I need to do that soon as I might need to enrol before September. I will have to see what it will involve first though as with Rob away etc it might not be possible for me to do it this year.

Leo has been asleep most of the afternoon which is unusual so I actually need to wake him for a feed. Will try and put him straight to bed but I'm sure he will be wide awake once I stir him.

REGISTERED - 4 WEEKS OLD

Leo is 4 weeks old already!

Things are going well. Leo still feeds quite a lot and is putting on weight as he should. He seems to sleep quite a lot in the early evening and then wakes about 10pm until midnight. Then will wake at 2 for a feed and then again at 5. I usually feed him at 7 too. He can then feed once an hour for about 3 hours before having a sleep. Around dinner time he has another feeding frenzy! I don't really mind as long as I can fit it all in.

The health visitor came last Thursday and he was 9lb. She is due again this Thursday so I will be able to update the weight then. Nothing much was really said that I was interested in so I have nothing to add.

Leo has started smiling on a regular basis and I'm trying hard to capture it on video. It is so cute, he opens his whole mouth.

Yesterday I had my first physio session. My stomach muscles are back to 1 1/2cm which is completely normal! The physio was very surprised but pleased. She said I had obviously been doing my exercises. My pelvis is still unstable so I still have to see her again in about a months time.

I booked my 6 week check up but it actually falls at 8 weeks. I may need to check if that is OK as my bladder is still slightly prolapsed.

My hair has now started to fall out. Not in big clumps but I'm seeing it on the kitchen and living room floor. I also need to wash it more often now which is a real pain seeing as I have less time.

I decided to do my measurements after all, as it might give me a bit of an incentive to stop eating all the junk food that I am currently eating. I wont be doing pictures though.

My target is the following:

Weight = 11st 6lbs
Tummy = 85cm
Upper arm = 27cm
Upper leg = 57cm
Ankle = 23.5cm
Neck = 32.5cm

I am currently:

Weight = 12st 11lbs
Tummy = 97cm
Upper arm = 30cm!
Upper leg = 64cm!
Ankle = 24cm
Neck = 33cm

I went back to the hospital today to get Leo registered. As I turned into the road it is on my stomach turned over with nerves and I had to do a long breathe out. Everything just came flooding back.

Parking was a fiasco and hard and hot work but the actual registering took 5 minutes, literally. I can now get on with the child benefit forms.

I am extremely happy as a mother of 2. It is hard work and I am sometimes very tired but it is all worth it. My boys are the best and I love them very much. The whole experience this time has been amazing and surpassed anything that I could have expected. I would love to have a big family but time will tell on that one.

Talking about expanding the family, I need to start taking my pill again soon. I need to find it first! ;o)

I wanted to save a picture of the website when I was 40 weeks pregnant, showing zero days left to go. So here it is.

I think I'm doing quite well. Obviously I have my off days but so far things are good. There doesn't seem to have been that much adjustment this time. I still feel like me, or at least the way I was before having Leo. It was much harder first time around, feeling as rough as I did, and having to learn how to be a mother. I didn't know what was going on, I was in a complete haze, felt like a zombie and I didn't know where I had gone. Sounds a bit too deep for me I know but it was a very strange time for me.

I'm enjoying each day as it comes and trying to not wish time away. Taking in each moment and cherishing every first that my children do.

I GAVE BIRTH! - 3 WEEKS, 5 DAYS OLD

It seems like forever ago that I was pregnant, a distant memory and already I am missing that feeling. It was hard towards the end and I felt terrible the last 2 weeks before Leo arrived but I would do it all again, if I'm allowed.

I have half sorted out my maternity wear. I have a pile of stuff that I will lend out to my Mummy friends when they get pregnant and the rest of the stuff I'm sort of still wearing. Really need to get my bag of clothes down from the loft and sort it all out properly. Not really worth doing until I get back to a normal size.

Leo was weighed by the health visitor on Thursday and he is 9lb! He is following along the 50% line in the growth chart book. She said I was doing a good job with the feeding and that Leo was putting on weight well. She talked for ages and ages and I don't really remember what about. She is due again next week.

I have an appointment with the physio tomorrow which will hopefully put me on track for a full recovery. My pelvis is still bad at night and today I was jogging around the lawn with Ellis and it was really hurting! I wouldn't be able to do yoga or line dancing yet without being in pain. It is still early days and I keep forgetting that it is less than a month ago that I gave birth! Yay! I GAVE BIRTH! I can finally say it.

Been watching my diary videos from the early days of pregnancy and even pre-pregnancy. I love that I have done the diary and was laughing my head off at some of the stuff I said.

Leo has been rather demanding today. Not really sure what the problem was but I have been stuck in a loop of changing nappy, feeding, winding, changing nappy, feeding, winding etc. It has been endless.

Ellis is still being good with Leo although I find that he has worked out that he can get attention if he threatens to do anything to him. Sneaky.

I'm really happy and loving being a new Mummy again. Today has been a challenge though and I only hope I get some sleep tonight. Lack of sleep is my biggest enemy.

I have arranged an appointment to register Leo on Tuesday and then I can fill out the child benefit form etc. We can also arrange a passport once the birth certificate returns.

I phoned Southmead hospital last Monday to order a copy of my notes. It is going to cost 25p per page, plus postage, plus £10 for their time! It is going to cost loads but I really, really want them for my records/scrap book so it has to be done. I have to sign a form and send it back and then hopefully it wont take too long.

For Leo's memorabilia box we bought all the same things that we did for Ellis. He has newspapers, set of coins and the single that was number one at the time. I have also started his scrap book which will contain the pregnancy test, cards of congratulations, pregnancy and labour notes hopefully, name tags from hospital, all his cards and of course his cord! Rob thinks it's disgusting but I like it as it was what connected him to me.

I weighed last week and I was 12st 11lb! Still really heavy and a long way to go to get back to my normal size. My boobs are huge though so that wont be helping the scales. I'm not worried about it and I'm certainly not dieting yet.

Where is the time going? This morning I felt old. It suddenly dawned on me that I am a mother of 2 children under the age of 2. Rob and I are parents. I'm strange I know.

Right, I now have to try and move Leo to bed without waking him. That isn't going to happen.

ELLIS

Ellis has been doing so well since we brought Leo home from the hospital. He likes to give him kisses and talks to him often. I have only once found him trying to pick him up out of his chair and he has only hit him twice but other than that he has been good.

Ellis also hasn't been jealous either. Rob and I can coo over Leo and Ellis doesn't even notice. He doesn't try and get our attention or anything. I have today noticed though that when I am feeding Leo, Ellis will try and do something naughty to see if he can get away with it. Poor Leo has his feeds interrupted all the time but I can't let Ellis win.

Ellis also started screaming when Leo is crying. It only started today and I am hoping that if I ignore it long enough, he will stop doing it.

He helps me out a lot too. He passes me nappies, and puts the dirty ones out in the hall way. He likes to watch Leo feed and has attempted, only tonight, to get latched on himself! I have tried to explain to him that it is food for babies and not big boys like him. He seems to understand but the interest is still there. To be fair to him, it has been less than a year since he stopped.

I only hope that he continues to love that Leo is here and that they grow a close bond and are best mates for years to come.

LEO - 3 WEEKS OLD

I forgot a few things in my video entry. One being his weight. He has been gaining loads of weight from all these feeds that he is having.

Weight so far:

Birth = 8lb 2oz

3 days = 7lb 9oz

11 days = 8lb 1oz

16 days = 8lb 7oz

I haven't yet registered his birth and I need to do that soon. Rob still isn't sure of the name Leo but he is hoping it will grow on him.

Rob chose Milton as his middle name which I actually don't mind. I do think of the steriliser company, and a white horse but I have been told that Milton is a famous poet. I'm sure Leo will be having a go at us later in life about his name. I'm pretty sure there are a few people that don't like his name. Rob's Mum didn't believe him when he told her the middle name, she thought he was joking.

He has had a few baths, and I will try and video one shortly. He is pretty good. He cries up until he is put in the water and then once he has been splashed for a bit he settles down.

His hand is still slightly swollen from the cannula and I will be asking the health visitor about it on Wednesday.

Leo has also been graced with a double crown! His are closer together than Ellis' but I think he will still have the famous Mohawk hair. I hope so anyway as it was quite cool on Ellis.

Leo has received tons of gifts and more cards then Ellis which has been amazing. We are very grateful for all the generosity. I will be doing Thank You cards as soon as I can get to the shops to buy some! Might try and do it on the computer and print them out on the weekend. Will see what I can do.

I will try and post regular updates of Leo's progress.

ME - 2 WEEKS, 6 DAYS POST BIRTH

It was obvious that I would miss some things off my video entry, even though it is 12 minutes long!

Things have been going well. I've just been getting on with it really and trying not to think about it all. I have got back into taking Ellis to his groups etc and Leo has just fitted in nicely. I haven't let it stop me from doing anything I did before, it is just a lot harder to do.

I have received loads of nice comments about how well I am looking and that I seem to be doing really well and coping. I have been quite lucky in the bump department this time and it has gone down a lot faster than before. Here is a picture of bump 2 days post birth.

Having said that about my bump, I have nothing to wear! I threw out my jeans once I grew out of them as they had holes in but I do have a pair of fat jeans that should last a while yet. Tops are a problem too so may need to do a bit of shopping soon. I fancy buying a couple of nursing tank tops from Mothercare. Will go and have a look soon.

I have only been home 2 weeks but it feels like a lot longer. It feels like Leo has always been here and that I was pregnant yonks ago. I think he has settled in really well.

LIFE ON THE WARD - CHAPTER 2

I pretty much jumped out of the wheelchair, put Leo in the cot and got onto the bed. They checked the name tags etc and they did the usual, blood pressure, pulse, tummy checks.

A lovely lady brought me a cuppa with 2 huge bowls of cereal and we set about sorting out the bags and unpacking a few things for the night, or so we thought.

The midwife noticed that Leo was making a funny sound which they call grunting. She asked if he had been doing it before and I said that he had been doing it since we were in the delivery suite.

The midwife did a set of observations - temperature, heart rate and respiration. She said his temperature was a bit low and that I should do skin-on-skin for a while and encourage him to feed. We stayed skin-on-skin, feeding for quite a while and his temperature came back up.

Leo didn’t stop grunting for the afternoon so he was referred to a paediatrician. His blood sugar was checked, which was fine, and they said he probably just had a bit of mucus on his lungs that would be absorbed naturally.

Later in the afternoon, the doctor took Leo to the NICU to perform some blood tests. He was gone for nearly an hour, which was very strange.

The midwife then came to see me and told me that Leo had an infection of some sort and would have to have antibiotics. I didn’t know what that meant to start with, I just thought they would give him a dose and we could go home tomorrow. I said this to the midwife and she informed me that Leo would have a cannula in his hand and would need to stay in for a minimum of 3 days, the start of the 3 days being 5pm on the 26th May. I was a bit surprised and obviously worried about Leo.

Leo arrived back by 5:30pm and I didn’t like the big cannula in his hand. I hid it using a sock which actually did a very good job.

Seeing as we would be staying in for a bit, I asked to move beds to be by the window, which they thankfully did. I was now in room 5, bed 4.

6:15pm arrived and so did some of my visitors. First up were Rob and Ellis who was brilliant when he met Leo. I was a bit worried to start with but he was fine. I couldn’t believe how big and heavy Ellis was. He suddenly grew up!

The Grandparents arrived shortly after and it was so nice to see everyone and I know it takes a long time to get to the hospital, find parking, and get through the reception etc, all for just under an hour of quick cuddles and pictures. I felt a bit sorry for everyone as I had to kind of kick them out so that I could concentrate on feeding Leo, who hadn’t had a feed since 12:30pm - the midwife was on my case.

Everyone left, including Rob and Ellis, and I had a shower and did some diary.

By the end of the day, I was feeling rather drained and I was experiencing after-pains like I hadn’t felt with Ellis. They are just like very strong period pains. I had some Paracetamol to help.

My pelvis, which I thought would be much better after Leo was out, was killing me! The midwife, who inspected my stomach on arrival at the ward, had noticed my bad stomach muscles and I was referred to the physio. She also said the pelvis pain would take a couple of days to settle down as the hormones were still changing.

Sat alone, apart from Leo, on my bed, I received hundreds of texts and e-mails. I couldn’t have done without my iPhone which really kept me going. I was in touch with so many people, all the time and I was able to see Rob and Ellis on the web cam at home.

The midwives had been lovely. I also bumped into Vivien’s (my active birth teacher) daughter, Rachel, who is a midwife at the hospital. We had a quick chat and she said she was with her Mum when I sent the text to say I was in labour, and here I was with the baby!

I didn’t do much in the evening, just tried to get some rest like Leo.

Leo had his cannula flushed at 11pm, which just involves 2 midwives, one to do, one to check, putting some saline solution down it. No problems.

At 5am on day 2, I had to walk down to the NICU so that Leo could get his antibiotics. It wasn’t a pleasant experience but made me thankful that he wasn’t in there. He didn’t mind the injection of the drugs and he seemed to love the anti thrush stuff they put in his mouth.

I had my post natal check first thing in the morning. The midwife had a look at my tear and said that it was going to heal wonky! What?! I wasn’t expecting it to look perfect down there again but to have wonky bits! Ah well, the joys of childbirth. It was stinging too so I accepted some pain killers.

Leo had his flush done at 11am. Again no problems.

I spent the morning relaxing and arranging visitors with Rob and giving him lists of stuff to bring in for me. He was coping so well and didn’t seem flustered by anything, which is just what I needed.

After lunch, Mum and my sister Katie came in to see me. They had some lovely cuddles and Leo actually opened his eyes.

They also bought in a heap of birthday cards and gifts for me, and some cards and gifts for Leo. It took me ages to get through it all but it was really nice. I had some great stuff and Leo was spoilt rotten.

We moved into the dining room so that we could have some tea and then Rob and Ellis arrived. Rob had brought in my 30th birthday cake which he had bought for me. Mum and Kate sang happy birthday (unfortunately not caught on camera) and we were soon tucking in to the yummy cake.

Mum and Kate watched the video of the birth. I’m not quite sure what they thought of it to be honest as they didn’t say. To us it is amazing that we captured the emotional moment of when our second son arrived.

We were then left on our own and I looked after Ellis while Rob had some cuddles.

We had bought a few gifts for Ellis, from Leo and he was allowed to open his first one which was a set of Thomas The Tank Engine books. He loved it and I later heard from Mum and Rob that they had read them about 100 times over.

Rob and Ellis didn’t stay too long as Ellis was rather hectic in the hospital. He would run around trying to get away from you. It was a game that he found funny but it was very tiring for us and didn’t really allow much time for Rob to sit and chill with his new baby. I tried to get him to arrange for someone to have Ellis the following day so that he could come in and relax for a bit.

5pm and Leo and I went to the NICU for the usual jabs. Leo and I then had a short rest before Uncle Dave arrived for his visit.

Then it was Tilly’s turn. Her husband Simon was sat in the car with Ethan who was too young to come into the hospital. We sat chatting for a while and then she made a run for it back to the car so that they could swap over. Unfortunately visiting time was over by the time Simon arrived, so I showed him Leo through the window and had a quick chat. It was really funny.

Had a lovely shower and tidied up my little area that I called home. I was really tired after such a busy day but Leo decided to wake up at 10:30pm and then we were then disturbed at 11pm so they could flush his cannula.

Day 3

Feeding was going well and my milk had just started to come in. It didn’t feel that bad really, just a bit sore around the edges, which was hugely different from my first experience. With Ellis I had to express and feed so the demand for the milk was high, hence I was over stimulated and therefore over-engorged which was extremely painful.

I spent the first part of the morning taking pictures of Leo using the digital macro setting. It seemed to work quite well I thought.

Thankfully Rob had arranged for Nanny Rennolds to have Ellis for the afternoon so he was able to relax and bond with his new son.

After taking some pictures and video of me with Leo, as I am usually behind the camera, Rob had some skin on skin time.

Soon the paediatrician arrived to give us the news regarding Leo's blood tests. She had been so sure that things were going to be fine, that when she came around the corner, pulling the curtain behind her and I saw her face, I knew something was up. She said his infection levels had risen to 14 from 2 (on a scale of 0-20) which wasn't good news. She had asked the lab to run the test twice as she was really surprised by the result. This would mean that Leo would now need the full 5 days of antibitics, followed by 24 hours of observations, which would mean we could potentially go home Monday afternoon depending on the results of later blood tests that would be done. The doctor explained that if the levels rise above 20, they would need to do a lumbar puncture and maybe a chest x-ray to try to find out more. I was obviously upset by this news, as potentially he could have a chest infection or even meningitis!

Vivien arrived just after we had received the news regarding the extra stay and further tests. She did her best to console me.

For the rest of the afternoon I relaxed as much as possible until the second visiting time. I had Wayne and Nic coming in and I saw them through my window as they arrived. It was really nice to have a bit of a distraction as we chatted about loads of different things.

I had another shower in the evening and went to bed. The ward was very noisy and one baby just wouldn't stop screaming! It wasn't a normal cry, it was so high pitched that it woke up all the other babies, including Leo, so not much sleep was had by anyone.

Day 4

Leo fed a lot obviously as he was so disturbed through the night and then we had to go to the NICU at 5am. While we were there, one of the nurses said Leo looked jaundiced and asked if he had been tested yet or not. I had no idea, and when I got back to the ward the midwife had a look and said there was nothing to worry about and that Leo looked normal.

Between the hours of 5:30 - 7 ish seemed to be sleepy time. The ward always seemed really quiet at this time and so Leo and I used this to our advantage and had a nap.

I had breakfast at 8 and then Leo had his eye swabbed at it was still gooey and then he had his routine observations done. They were all fine.

Rob had again arranged for someone to have Ellis, this time it was our friend Naomi and her son Iestyn and so he was able to come in first thing in the morning. It was great to have him there and although I missed Ellis, I was glad he was at home.

Rob and I gave Leo his first ever bath. I'm sorry but we had to video the whole thing as it was his first, so long video coming right up!

Leo was weighed and he had lost a little bit of weight. He was about 7lb 9oz, down from 8lb 1.5oz. Ellis, on the other hand, went down to 6lb 13oz from 7lb 13.5oz.

We relaxed until lunchtime and then it was soon time for Rob to go home. I was sad.

The doctor came for Leo so that she could take some more blood samples. I'm sure I could hear him screaming but the doctor came back saying he was really good. Not sure she was telling the whole truth. She did manage, however, to get blood all over his clean vest and grow that we had put on after his bath! Not pleased.

After another bit of a rest and some dinner, my folks arrived for a surprise visit.

Leighton and Jaidan also came for a visit but with 2 young children in the car they had to take it in turns. Mum and Dad went and sat in the dining room while I caught up with my other guests. They didn't stay much longer.

Down at the NICU at 5pm, Leo was really upset by the injection and I said that it had hurt him this time and I wondered if it had worked properly. They said it had gone in fine but I wasn't so sure. Leo had reacted so differently to any other time that I knew something wasn't right. Mothers do know best sometimes and I only wished they had listened to me. It upset me seeing him so upset.

Opposite my bed was a very large family with 2 young children, plus the new baby, plus the sister who managed to sit with them all day. One of the children who was only 15 months old was being sick all the time and making groaning noises. The midwives eventually had enough and basically sent them all home and said they weren't allowed in the following day. Harsh but fair. I complained about the sick being spread everywhere by people walking through it and so housekeeping was called for the floor to be mopped.

Visitors for the evening slot were my Mummy friends, Charlotte and Naomi. It was great to see them and I really enjoyed telling my birthing story and just sharing my experience. They knew how much it meant to me to have a normal labour and birth.

In the evening I had a shower and then watched the final of Britains Got Talent with all the midwives and other members of staff. It was really good fun and there was lots of cheering, booing and general chit chat. Being a lifer on the ward I had got to know a lot of the staff members and so I was able to join in with banter etc.

The ward was nice and quiet so we were able to get more sleep, but Leo was still up for quite a long time around midnight.

Day 5

5am was the usual trip to the NICU. There was a lovely nurse dishing out the meds and she really reminded me of my history teacher, Mrs C, who I still meet up with from time to time.

Back on the ward, Leo's observations were done, and they were all fine again, the same as they had been the whole way through so far. How could a baby have an infection but no outward sign that anything was wrong?! Even the grunting had stopped.

For safety reasons you have to change your baby in their cot. I had been quite successful at this but not today. I pulled the nappy out and lifted his legs to put the new one under when suddenly a huge projectile poo shot out and hit the end of the cot. It went everywhere! All I could do for the first minute was laugh my head off! I didn't know where to start on cleaning up. I was still holding Leo's legs up and trying to get him clean. A midwife ran to my rescue and we were soon back in one piece with clean bedding, blankets, clothes etc.

Leo and I had a lovely lazy morning just feeding and dozing. I was feeling rather groggy, like I had a cold coming, so it was quite nice not to have to do anything.

Then, around lunch time, Rob brought Ellis in, and I actually got to go outside! The weather was really nice - ideal for a picnic in the shade - so that's what we did.

Ellis kept running off though, and wanting his Daddy, so we didn't stay outside for too long. While we were outside, I heard a tap on the window and when I looked up, there was my yoga friend, Maura. I later went to see her and we shared birthing stories. We hadn't realised that we were 2 doors away from each other and had been for a couple of days! It was nice to catch up.

I had a rather boring afternoon and evening. I had no visitors and so I just sat around staring at Leo and gazing out of my window. That was about it.

There was a huge queue down at the NICU so we didn't get back to the ward until quite late. We chilled out together and I had a shower before crying down the phone to Rob and trying to get some sleep.

We didn't have too bad a night as Leo slept in with me for the most part. The midwives had stopped checking up on me by now so we were left in peace. They did come in at 11pm to do his flush though.

Day 6

At 5am we went for what we were hoping would be his last antibiotics.

The morning was taken up with breakfast, lots of feeds and just watching Leo while he was asleep and awake.

Rob couldn't find anyone to have Ellis on the Sunday so I was quite upset for most of the day. I was feeling a bit delicate though, fortunately, I had visitors to keep my mind off things.

First visitor of the day was Sally, another Mummy friend. Again I really enjoyed talking through my birth story. Sally will be in the same position as me when she has another baby as she had a c-section first time around too, for the same reason as me! I was hoping that my story my inspire her to go the natural route but I understand that the decision is made harder by the fact that you are actually given a choice the second time around.

I then decided to get on with some blogging, or at least to write up some notes as the days were ticking by and I was aware that I would forget so much. Plus the added fact that I would have less time when I eventually got home to write it all up and to post it. The time is taken up by re-sizing photos and videos and then uploading and processing them. It takes forever to do one video!

The doctor came around again to take Leo for some blood, but this time I had to go too for some reason. I didn't like it at all. First of all she pulled the cannula out and noticed that it didn't bleed. She was hoping to get the blood sample from there but advised me that it had been in tissue all along and hadn't worked properly. I told her that I had thought that had happened a few days ago. She said it would have been hurting him! Great! So she then had to put a hole in his heel and squeeze like mad to get enough blood out for a test pot and to do the heel prick test. Poor Leo was really distressed and I tried my best to calm him down but nothing worked. The doctor said Leo did well but that I did better.

Not long after dinner my best mate Lucy arrived for a visit. She had flown back from Portugal that morning and I was very pleased that she had made it in to see me.

The evening was spent blogging and having a shower and just chatting with the staff in the dining room.

The ward was busy again so loads of noise. One lady had had a home birth that had gone really well but her little girl had decided to stop eating and so wasn't putting on weight. She had to do what I did with Ellis, which was to feed for 20 minutes and then top her up with expressed milk from a cup. You would then need to express again for the next feed. She wasn't very pleasant with the staff as she was very unhappy to be in hospital. I could understand how she felt but the staff on that ward were amazing and I think she should have given them a chance.

Another girl on the ward was Chinese and could barely speak any English. I had to keep telling the staff that although she was saying yes to their questions, she didn't understand them. At one point they got her Dad on the phone to translate!

Day 7

I managed to sleep okay even though the ward was really busy. I was really excited about going home but also really nervous. I didn't dare pack my bags just in case the blood test results were bad.

I knew I was on the disharge list as they checked my address. I was going home! Also, my midwife Bonny, who had also been my midwife with Ellis, had gone through all the going home questions etc and said she would complete the paperwork.

Towards lunchtime I packed my bags and did a video diary.

Eventually the doctor gave the all clear and we were then free to go! Yay!

Rob arrived with the car seat at the same time my lunch arrived. We scoffed as much as we could and gave some away to my neighbours. We then took a few final pictures of Leo in his going home outfit before exiting the building and walking to the car.

It was very strange to be a free woman and I didn't feel that fuzzy feeling like last time. I actually felt quite normal and really fancied a McDonald's. When I left the hospital after having Ellis, I was a complete zombie. I didn't really know where I was or what was going on. I cried on the way home too. Not a very nice memory really but this time was very, very different.

We were held up in heavy traffic and stopped off for my McDonalds (which was yummy by the way). We then phoned home to find out that Ellis was still sleeping. I didn't want to get home with him still in bed so we went to Sainsbury's and did a quick food shop before going home.

When we arrived Ellis and Nanny were sat on the front doorstep. I quickly grabbed the camera and tried to video the moment.

The next installment will be life at home. I'm really not sure how long that is going to take me to do as I really want to update TopFlumps too. There are only so many hours in the day. I hope the above all makes sense. I think it is a bit choppy in places but I have just tried to get as many facts down as I can. Please feel free to comment on any suggestions etc for the site.
